BIGHIT MUSIC

Big Hit Entertainment is a Korean entertainment label founded in 2005 by Bang Si-Hyuk. He currently has 3 artists under his main label: Lee Hyun, BTS and TXT.

Big Hit is working on building a "multi-label" system, in which Big Hit Entertainment is the parent label with various subsidiaries. To date, Big Hit is comprised of: BELIFT, an IP-based multimedia content company; Source Music Entertainment, the label of the idol group G-Friend; beNX, a global trading platform for music; Superb, an online games company.

The first artists to have a contract with Big Hit was the vocal trio 8Eight, which debuted in 2007. To date, only one member of the group is still under Big Hit and promotes as a soloist, Lee Hyun. The group remained active until 2014.

In 2010, Big Hit obtained joint management of Idol 2PM group together with JYP, one of the most important Korean entertainment agencies, and old Bang Si-Hyuk agency. That same year, Big Hit began a nationwide audition tour, in which RM passed.

In 2012, Big Hit debuted her first female idol group, GLAM, in partnership with Source Music Entertainment. GLAM was active until 2014, when the group broke up due to a scandal involving one of the group members: Kim Daehee. Daehee was sentenced to prison following charges of blackmail and stalking of an actor.

The scandal was a severe blow to Big Hit, which found itself almost on the verge of bankruptcy.

In 2014, the contract between JYP Entertainment and Big Hit also ended, and three of the members of 2PM left the group. Big Hit followed by duo HOMME, consisting of Lee Changmin of 2PM and Lee Hyun of 8Eight, but the duo disbanded in 2018 after Changmin's contract ended, leaving Lee Hyun to promote as a soloist.

Big Hit debuted BTS in 2013, whose career propelled Big Hit to become one of the largest entertainment agencies in Korea.

2018 and 2019 were two years of important changes for Big Hit, starting with the management reorganization in the first quarter of 2019, in which Bang Si-Hyuk chose Lenzo Yoon as the new CO-CEO, to head the business sector of the company. In 2019, a second men's group also debuted, the TXT.

Following in the wake of expansion and diversification, in 2018 Big Hit and CJ E&M (another Korean entertainment agency) set out their idea of creating a joint stock company under the name BELIFT. In 2019, Belief announced a series of auditions for a new idol group under this new label. Belief is currently split 52% under CJ E&M and 48% under Big Hit.

In 2020, Big Hit announced a new change to the company's top management, adding a new CEO to head primarily the internal organization and headquarters: Park Jiwoon. Bang Si-Hyuk also became president (chairman) of the company, in addition to maintaining his role as CEO.
